These ideas will fetch you over $200 a week if you do it right. As developers, we all want to have pet projects or other projects that will serve as other streams of income, and I am with you on this. We will look at some potential ideas that could help us achieve this.
A lot of developers are self-taught, and I know for sure, that many want to put their knowledge into practice, either in open source, paid employment as developers or apply their knowledge in a way where it will add on as another stream of income and also improve their environment one way or the other.
I will highlight these few ideas with some explanation, and I am sure you can build on these, and then apply them to your environments as the need may arise. Also, you can come up with similar ideas that will help improve your environment and also serve as a source of income for you.
Let’s dive into these ideas.
1. LANDING PAGE TEMPLATES WITH HTML AND CSS: This is an idea that isn’t so difficult to come up with. A lot of local businesses around you need a landing page for their small businesses. Some of them cannot afford a fully functioning website, so they rather go for a STATIC website, and this is where your knowledge comes in. These templates can be designed in several similar designs that will fit the type of businesses in your locality, or they can be expanded for sale on the internet. There are lots of start-ups that won’t mind spending a few bucks to buy your landing page templates for their ideas because they don’t want to go through the rigors of designing from scratch, and that’s where yours come in handy. For specificity, you can design a template that you think fits a particular business type, approach them with it and sell, or design as they deem fit.
2. JAVASCRIPT FUNCTIONS FOR SALE: Oh well, this idea just came to mind as I was writing about the Landing Page one above. I think this idea will fly because it saves businesses a lot of time and thinking. If one can write EVENTS out in Functions, document them and put them up for sale for a few bucks, I believe a lot of small businesses won’t think so much about buying them. These Functions will come as Button events to submit orders, submit a form input, retrieve an input, and so much more. When these small businesses pay for any of these functions, they can edit it to suit their own needs. Also, you can offer after-sales services to help them tailor the functions to fit their businesses or however they want it. The advantage of this idea to small businesses is, it helps them scale up their HTML and CSS landing page into a fully functioning websites. They don’t have to pay so much for a website at the time. They start with the Landing page and add several functions and clicks they need as they grow.
3. SERVICES APP: A services app that uses geolocation to track the closest service providers around where you live. The service providers will include janitors, plumbers, painters, gardeners, electricians, security officers etc. This app would come in handy because it not only shows you the available service providers; it also provides income through adverts when the app becomes more popular. This app would be a very great idea if it comes to life because it provides users with several options of service providers to choose from, and they can also choose from the one that offers the best price. It reduces the waiting time between client and service provider, provides a long list of the closest service providers to choose from and gives more opportunities of reach to these providers.
4. SELL YOUR DOCUMENTED IDEA ON GUMROAD OR PODIA: This idea works more with people who can put their thoughts together and document them. Here, you think of a problem and then document the solution. You write out the step-by-step solution to the problem in an 8-10 pages document and convert it to pdf, and then market it on Gumroad, Podia, Amazon kdp and other such platforms. These ideas can be ideas that solve local or global problems, in media, health, finance, sports, personal finance or any other field of your specialty. They can be sold on any of the aforementioned platforms for as little as $10, and depending on what the idea is, some can be sold for up to $50 and even $100. You can try to get traffic on other social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and telegram) marketing that idea and I bet you would be surprised at how much you have done for yourself.
5. DRINKS APP: A lot of people will find this useful, and developers most especially will love it. This will come as an app where people will visit, make orders, send payments and leave their addresses for delivery. The developer at the backend will collate these orders and send them to the staff who will then get these drinks from the store, and get them shipped to clients. This is a simple app to come by. It will just need some marketing and publicity. Instead of just-drinks, the app can be scaled up to meet other such services. It could be expanded to food orders, grocery orders, pastry orders etc.
These ideas can be built upon and developed to a more robust one, depending on which one of them you find worthy of trying, also you can come up with a different idea entirely building on the motivation this article gives. Like Nike, ‘’just try it’’.
